Notifications and location permissions

campersAPP asks for notifications so your park can reach you, and for location so the map works. You can turn either one on, off, or fine-tune it anytime in your device settings.

Last updated .

Two things campersAPP asks permission for when you first open it. Both are optional, and both are useful.

What notifications does the app send?

Whatever your park sends. That usually includes:

  • Weather alerts: severe weather warnings the park issues for the campground
  • Activity reminders: events on the park calendar
  • Messages from staff: anything the office wants to reach you about
  • Emergency notifications: the park’s channel for urgent guest communication

If you deny notifications, the app still works, but you won’t hear from the park when they reach out.

Turning notifications on or off

iPhone / iPad: Settings → Notifications → campersAPP. Toggle Allow Notifications.

Android: Settings → Apps → campersAPP → Notifications. Toggle Allow notifications.

Some parks let you fine-tune inside the app too. Go to Settings → Notifications from the park’s experience to opt in or out of specific alert categories the park has published.

What is location used for?

  • The park map centers on your location, so you can see where you are on the property.
  • The coverage map (before you connect to a park) can center on nearby parks if you allow location.
  • Geofenced alerts: some parks send location-triggered messages (e.g. “welcome to the pool area”). Only parks that configure this use it.

If you deny location, the coverage map still shows every park, and the park map still shows the property; you just won’t see a dot for where you are.

“When using” vs “Always”

  • “When using the app” is enough for the park map and coverage map. This is what campersAPP asks for by default.
  • “Always” is only requested by parks that use geofenced alerts and want them to work when the app isn’t open. You can decline this and use the rest of the app normally.

We never share your location with anyone, and the app doesn’t track your location in the background unless a park you’re connected to has enabled geofenced alerts AND you’ve granted “Always” permission. See our Privacy Policy for the full disclosure.

Changing location permission

iPhone / iPad: Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → campersAPP.

Android: Settings → Apps → campersAPP → Permissions → Location.
